Overview
The Senior Android Developer will focus on enhancing the security-critical components of a UK government Android application, primarily using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. This remote contract role entails collaborating closely with the mobile platform team to integrate features and manage releases while ensuring adherence to secure coding practices. The contractor will have the opportunity to influence the development of a live government application committed to high-quality security standards.
Responsibilities
- Build and improve the common parts of the Android app, focusing on authentication and secure storage.
- Apply secure coding practices in accordance with OWASP MASVS guidelines.
- Integrate features developed by other teams into the app, ensuring cohesion and functionality.
- Conduct code reviews, particularly assessing and addressing security issues.
- Monitor app stability using Crashlytics after releases, addressing any crashes that occur.
- Collaborate with QA and backend engineers to mitigate technical or security risks early in the process.
- Participate effectively in a small, agile team environment, contributing to discussions and code reviews.
Requirements
- Several years of commercial experience in native Android development with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
- Hands-on experience in mobile security, including authentication and secure storage practices.
- Familiarity with the OWASP Mobile Top 10 and MASVS standards.
- Ability to articulate the security risks addressed by implemented measures.
- Experience with Crashlytics for monitoring app stability.
- Comfortable working within a fast-paced, small team environment.
- Eligibility for SC clearance, with a minimum of 5 years continuous residence in the UK, ideally with existing clearance.
