Overview
We are seeking a Senior Android Engineer to join a consultancy team on a contract basis, focusing on building a UK bank's Android app as it transitions to Jetpack Compose. The role is remote first and expected to commence in January 2027 for approximately six months. As part of the team, you will collaborate with other engineers who are dedicated to maintaining high standards of code quality and testing while working on modernizing the codebase.
Responsibilities
- Build new features and screens in Jetpack Compose.
- Maintain XML and Data Binding screens and migrate them to Compose.
- Develop in Kotlin, with some legacy Java, utilizing an MVVM architecture with Hilt and Dagger.
- Consume REST APIs and maintain third-party SDKs.
- Write unit tests using JUnit and MockK to ensure safe changes and refactors.
- Debug applications on emulators and real devices, addressing performance issues.
- Review pull requests and participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
Requirements
- Proven commercial Android experience in Kotlin, including Coroutines and Flow.
- Experience with Jetpack Compose, XML layouts, and Data Binding.
- Proficiency in MVVM architecture and dependency injection using Hilt and Dagger.
- Strong skills in unit testing using JUnit and MockK.
- Understanding of mobile security principles, especially regarding sensitive data and network calls.
- Familiarity with legacy Java code for maintenance of older components.
