Overview
The Battery Design Engineer will play a critical role within the Battery team on an aerospace programme, focusing on the detailed mechanical design and ownership of high-performance battery pack assemblies. This hands-on position requires collaboration with electrical, manufacturing, and engineering teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet high-voltage considerations. The contractor will engage in the complete design process, from concept to assembly, utilizing their expertise in various manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed mechanical design and development of battery pack assemblies.
- Design housings, enclosures, and internal battery components.
- Create designs for injection-moulded components, sheet metal, cast parts, and seals.
- Package and integrate high-voltage components with careful attention to safety standards.
- Support designs from initial concept through to manufacture and assembly.
- Collaborate closely with electrical, manufacturing, and analysis teams.
Requirements
- Proven mechanical design experience in battery, electric vehicles, automotive, aerospace, or complex engineering.
- Hands-on experience with detail design and design ownership.
- Familiarity with injection moulding, sheet metal, cast components, and sealing processes.
- Strong understanding of high-voltage electrical considerations in mechanical design.
- Experience designing smaller-scale assemblies for manufacturing.
- Proficiency in CATIA and 3DEXPERIENCE is preferred.
