Overview
The Civil & Structural Design Engineer will play a critical role in executing design coordination for various electrical infrastructure projects, including Grid Access Substations and HVDC Converter Stations. Collaborating within multidisciplinary teams, the engineer will provide technical support throughout the project's lifecycle while ensuring adherence to design specifications and regulatory standards. This position is ideal for an experienced professional with comprehensive knowledge of civil and structural design principles and a strong understanding of M&E design concepts.
Responsibilities
- Own the design coordination package from commercial transfer to practical completion of electrical infrastructure projects.
- Review and align on Employer's Requirements to support early design and tender activities.
- Support procurement and construction teams with technical delivery of projects.
- Undertake design governance checks on the work of internal and external designers.
- Ensure compliance of third-party consultants' designs with contract requirements.
- Interact with other disciplines to develop scoping documents.
- Author and manage Scope of Works documents and design tender packages.
- Participate in and lead design reviews and discussions with stakeholders.
Requirements
- Significant experience in civil and structural design, with a strong architectural knowledge base.
- Knowledge of M&E design concepts and relevant coordination.
- Experience using computational frame design software (e.g., Masterseries, Tedds, STAD-Pro).
- Familiarity with Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 and associated health and safety legislation.
- Chartered Engineer status or equivalent experience in design, engineering, or construction.
- Ability to comprehensively review and assess calculations from other designers.
- Understanding of planning consents and technical support management for third parties.
- Good knowledge of British and European codes of practice and Building Regulations.
