Overview
The Civil & Structural Design Engineer will play a critical role in managing design and coordination packages for various electrical infrastructure projects, including Grid Access Substations and HVDC Converter Stations. Working in a hybrid arrangement, the contractor will collaborate with procurement, construction teams, and third-party consultants, all while ensuring compliance with design and regulatory standards. This position is vital for maintaining practical completion timelines and supporting multidisciplinary work.
Responsibilities
- Own and manage design and design coordination packages from planning to practical completion.
- Review and align on Employer's Requirements to facilitate early design and tender activities.
- Produce designs as needed using hand calculations, spreadsheets, and design software.
- Conduct design governance checks on internal and external designers' outputs.
- Ensure compliance of third-party consultants' information with contract requirements.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to create and manage scoping documents and tender packages.
- Monitor design progress and quality against project objectives.
- Lead discussions among internal designers, clients, consultants, and project teams.
Requirements
- Significant experience in civil and structural design, particularly in electrical infrastructure projects.
- Working knowledge of M&E design concepts and coordination principles.
- Familiarity with Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015.
- Experience with computational frame design software (e.g., Masterseries, Tedds, STAD-Pro).
- Understanding of British and European codes of practice and Building Regulations.
- Chartered Engineer status or equivalent relevant experience.
- Ability to review and verify calculations and design information provided by others.
- Proven experience in managing design activities and delivering clear instructions to consultancies.
