Overview
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Civil Estimator to join a pre-construction team on major infrastructure projects. In this hybrid role, the contractor will work closely with the Pre-Construction Manager, preparing detailed estimates for civil engineering works and supporting tender submissions. This position is ideal for candidates with a robust background in civil engineering estimating, particularly within the energy or major infrastructure sectors.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates, take-offs, and bills of quantities for civil engineering and structural packages.
- Review tender documentation and drawings to establish the scope of works and identify discrepancies.
- Produce cost plans and estimates for tender submissions and budget requirements.
- Document assumptions, exclusions, and commercial risks throughout the estimating process.
- Raise and manage Technical Queries to clarify scope and design requirements.
- Assess construction methodologies and establish realistic costs based on project requirements.
- Maintain clear records of assumptions, risks, and estimating activities.
- Prepare and communicate estimating handover packs to the project delivery team.
Requirements
- Over 10 years of experience in construction, with at least 5 years in estimating.
- Thorough knowledge of CESMM4 and experience with take-offs and bills of quantities.
- Proficient in reviewing drawings and tender documents, identifying gaps, and raising TQs.
- Strong skills in Excel and familiarity with estimating software.
- Solid understanding of construction methodologies and commercial awareness.
- Relevant Civil Engineering or Construction qualification, or equivalent experience.
- Desirable experience in the energy, utilities, or major infrastructure sectors.
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and memberships in ICE, CIOB, or RICS are a plus.
