Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to conduct a comprehensive data discovery and architecture assessment for a large retail organisation on a contract basis. The contractor will work in a hybrid environment, primarily focused on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and BigQuery, collaborating with both technical and business stakeholders to evaluate current data structures and processes while delivering actionable recommendations for improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead the assessment of the existing data landscape and architecture.
- Map the existing data estate, identifying key domains and systems.
- Evaluate data quality, ownership, and lineage across critical datasets.
- Review the GCP architecture, particularly focusing on BigQuery, to identify improvement opportunities.
- Engage with stakeholders to understand data processes and gaps.
- Produce clear documentation of findings and a list of prioritized recommendations.
- Create a practical roadmap for future improvements and investigations.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Data Architect or Data Platform Consultant.
- Strong technical knowledge of Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery.
- Experience in assessing complex data environments and multiple business systems.
- Familiarity with retail datasets such as product, customer, sales, and inventory.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and translate technical information into actionable insights.
- Experience in discovery-focused projects is highly desirable.
