Overview
The Data Governance & Master Data Lead will be responsible for establishing an enterprise data governance function from the ground up within a global renewable energy organization. This role entails working alongside various stakeholders to create a robust governance framework and manage master data across multiple platforms, ensuring data trust and quality in an asset-heavy industry. The position requires a strategic leader who can influence without authority and who will oversee a team while actively engaging with cross-functional departments to ensure effective data management.
Responsibilities
- Define and implement a Data Governance Framework aligned to industry best practices.
- Establish Data Owners, Stewards, and Custodians within the organization.
- Chair the enterprise Data Governance Committee to drive alignment and accountability.
- Develop and enforce data policies and controls for classification and lifecycle management.
- Own the enterprise Master Data Management (MDM) strategy across multiple data domains.
- Lead the MDM platform selection process and oversee its implementation and adoption.
- Define KPIs for data quality and establish automated monitoring and remediation processes.
- Collaborate with departments like Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure governance integration.
Requirements
- 10-15+ years of experience in data governance and/or MDM in the utilities, energy, or asset-heavy industries.
- Demonstrable success in implementing enterprise data governance and MDM frameworks to adoption.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as Informatica, Collibra, SAP MDG, or Microsoft Purview.
- Strong understanding of ERP systems, preferably SAP S/4HANA, and related data platforms.
- Proficiency in influencing global stakeholders without formal authority.
- Experience leading hybrid teams of internal and outsourced professionals.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Management, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with data governance certifications like DAMA or CDMP is a plus.
