Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Lead to join a major digital transformation programme for a central government department in London. In this 9-month contract role, the contractor will collaborate with business teams to define key data governance processes, create data strategies, and improve data quality management while working with various stakeholders to implement modern data governance tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the discovery phase of the data governance project by engaging with business teams.
  • Design and implement data governance strategies, operating models, and workflows.
  • Assess data quality, establish relevant rules, and automate monitoring processes.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive inventory of existing data assets and metadata.
  • Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to build out data lineage.
  • Support Master Data Management (MDM) initiatives by refining cleansing and matching rules.
  • Coach and train data stewards to ensure long-term ownership of data governance processes.
  • Utilize data governance technologies to enhance overall data management effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Active SC Clearance is mandatory.
  • Proven experience in delivering data governance initiatives within central government or public sector environments.
  • Hands-on experience with data governance tools such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, or similar technologies.
  • Strong expertise in defining data governance strategies and organizing business/technical metadata.
  • Practical experience with data quality rules and Master Data Management solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage stakeholder relationships across technical and business domains.
  • Proactive and outcome-focused approach with a strong emphasis on collaboration.
