Overview
The Database Administrator will join a dynamic team on an initial three-month contract, focusing on the MySQL database infrastructure that supports high-volume booking and ticketing transactions. The contractor will collaborate closely with engineering, infrastructure, and platform teams to ensure reliability and data integrity within critical systems, making a significant impact on travel technology solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain MySQL schemas for scalable, high-performance applications.
- Own administration of production databases, including monitoring and capacity planning.
- Plan schema changes and migrations with minimal disruption.
- Optimise queries, indexes, and schema design to reduce latency.
- Maintain read/write splitting across primary and replica databases.
- Manage AWS RDS, including provisioning, patching, backups, and scaling.
- Support disaster recovery planning and incident response.
- Document standards and runbooks for the team.
Requirements
- 5+ years as a MySQL DBA, or substantial MySQL responsibility in related roles.
- Strong track record in schema design, indexing, query tuning, and performance monitoring.
- Hands-on experience with AWS RDS and production read/write splitting.
- Desirable knowledge of Aurora, CloudWatch, or Terraform; experience in travel, e-commerce, or financial services.
