Overview
The Django Developer will join a B2B software business as part of a collaborative product team focused on redesigning their client portal. This hands-on contract role is aimed at experienced mid-level or senior Python engineers who will design and build APIs and backend workflows, taking full ownership of their work through to deployment. The ideal candidate will engage in technical discussions and decision-making to enhance the overall development process.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain backend services and APIs using Python and Django.
- Own work from technical refinement through to deployment and monitoring.
- Collaborate with product, management, QA, and other developers to create practical solutions.
- Make informed trade-offs across security, performance, maintainability, cost, and delivery.
- Break complex work into manageable increments and identify dependencies and risks early.
- Write clean, well-tested, and well-documented code with observability.
- Participate in code reviews and improve test automation and production reliability.
Requirements
- Commercial experience with backend services in production.
- Strong Python and Django skills, including ORM, migrations, configuration, and testing.
- Experience designing maintainable REST APIs with solid data modeling practices.
- Good knowledge of authentication, authorization, and secure API design.
- Experience with CI/CD and diagnosing application performance issues in live environments.
- Understanding of cloud-hosted applications, ideally in AWS.
- Clear communication skills to explain technical trade-offs to diverse audiences.
- Nice to have experience with FastAPI, PostgreSQL or MySQL, Docker, Celery, Redis, or Sentry.
