Geographic Information Systems Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Engineer for a 6-month remote contract position. The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary Agile team to design, build, and support modern cloud-native geospatial data services for critical national decision-making. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale geospatial processing projects and deliver high-quality services for analytics and operational applications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop scalable geospatial processing pipelines to integrate spatial datasets from multiple sources.
  • Design and support geospatial data platforms and services within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Implement geospatial data ingestion, transformation, validation, storage, and publishing pipelines.
  • Consume and publish geospatial data via RESTful and OGC-compliant APIs.
  • Optimize spatial datasets and services for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Contribute to solution architecture, technical standards, and automated testing processes.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior GIS / Geospatial Consultant in large-scale environments.
  • Strong consultancy experience with a background in multidisciplinary team collaboration.
  • Demonstrable skills in designing and supporting scalable geospatial data services.
  • Deep knowledge of geospatial data formats, such as GeoPackage and GeoTIFF.
  • Hands-on experience with open-source geospatial technologies like GDAL, QGIS, and OpenLayers.
  • Strong software engineering skills with proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP and modern data architectures.
  • Experience with version control, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
