Interim Financial Controller

Overview

The Interim Financial Controller will play a crucial role in the transition of a growing financial services business, providing leadership to the finance function during a significant transformation period. Reporting directly to the CFO, the contractor will execute improvements across financial reporting, controls, systems, and processes, ensuring the finance team is responsive to the company’s expansion. This hands-on position calls for someone who thrives in dynamic environments and can balance operational financial control with strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Manage the preparation of monthly management accounts, board packs, and investor reporting.
  • Review and strengthen financial controls, governance, and balance sheet integrity.
  • Support year-end audit and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Partner with the CFO to enhance budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting.
  • Lead finance systems optimisation initiatives, identifying opportunities for automation and enhancements.
  • Assess and implement improvements to current finance processes for increased efficiency and scalability.
  • Manage and develop a small finance team, providing leadership during the transitional period.

Requirements

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
  • Previous experience as a Financial Controller or Head of Finance.
  • Experience in the financial services sector, such as fintech, payments, or wealth management.
  • Strong technical accounting and financial controls expertise.
  • Demonstrable experience improving finance processes and reporting frameworks.
  • Significant exposure to finance systems, ERP optimisation, or finance transformation projects.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a hands-on interim environment.
  • Experience within a private equity-backed business is highly desirable.
