Lead Machine Learning Engineer

Overview

The Lead Machine Learning Engineer will spearhead the establishment of machine learning capabilities within a manufacturing environment that has yet to implement ML in production. This role entails addressing a critical optimization challenge to enhance manufacturing processes while managing sensitive intellectual property. The engineer will be responsible for developing data pipelines, training workflows, and the associated standards for ML models while working primarily in a remote capacity with occasional on-site collaboration in Scotland.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement robust machine learning models for manufacturing optimization.
  • Develop data pipelines and training workflows to support model development.
  • Establish monitoring and operational standards for machine learning models.
  • Oversee the transition of machine learning models from proposal to production.
  • Conduct offline validation, then manage shadow mode and controlled live trials.
  • Collaborate with domain specialists to ensure alignment with manufacturing processes.
  • Lead and define the framework for building out the machine learning team and resources.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in deploying machine learning models in a production environment.
  • Strong background in machine learning concepts and practices.
  • Experience in building machine learning capabilities from the ground up.
  • Ability to manage sensitive data within closed environments.
  • Familiarity with offline validation and controlled testing methodologies.
  • Experience in collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfort with open-ended challenges and defining processes without existing frameworks.
