Overview
We are seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for a 6-month contract role focused on designing, building, and deploying mission-critical machine learning systems across defence and high-integrity public sector programmes. In this hybrid role, you will collaborate closely with other engineers and stakeholders, influencing ML architecture and ensuring robust solutions with real-world impact. Responsibilities
- Design, build, and optimise ML models for various applications, including Natural Language Processing and Computer Vision.
- Own the full ML lifecycle from data preparation through to deployment and evaluation.
- Develop and maintain robust MLOps pipelines, including CI/CD processes and model monitoring.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers and DevOps teams to ensure scalable, production-ready systems.
- Shape architecture decisions related to ML pipelines and data flows.
- Implement secure coding practices aligned with compliance standards.
- Mentor junior engineers, promoting engineering excellence and technical growth.
- Research emerging ML techniques and tools to drive innovation within the team.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Machine Learning Engineer with a strong focus on production systems.
- Deep understanding of machine learning techniques, particularly in NLP and Computer Vision.
- Proficiency in developing and maintaining MLOps pipelines for end-to-end ML processes.
- Experience in a hybrid working environment and with collaboration across engineering teams.
- Strong coding skills, preferably in Python or similar languages.
- Familiarity with software engineering practices, including version control and testing frameworks.
- Ability to influence architecture and design decisions across ML projects.
- Experience mentoring less experienced engineers and fostering a culture of high-quality engineering.
