Overview
The Data Governance Specialist will play a critical role in building the data infrastructure for a high-growth defence tech startup. This hybrid position requires defining and implementing effective data governance, lineage, and compliance frameworks, ensuring adherence to relevant security and regulatory standards. Collaborating closely with agile engineering and machine learning teams, the specialist will embed best practices in data stewardship across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement data governance, quality, and metadata frameworks.
- Ensure compliance with UK MOD security controls, JSP guidelines, and UK GDPR.
- Map data lineage and build asset catalogs across modern cloud/on-prem stacks.
- Embed data stewardship best practices across agile engineering and ML teams.
Requirements
- Active UK SC Clearance (non-negotiable).
- Track record delivering data governance in defence, government, or high-security domains.
- Hands-on experience with modern data catalogs and governance tools (e.g., Purview, Collibra, Unity Catalog).
- Ability to work at pace in an agile, startup environment.
