Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Data Architect with extensive experience in PostgreSQL and a strong background in the London Market insurance sector. The successful candidate will collaborate with both business and technical teams to modernise and optimise complex data environments, ensuring the delivery of scalable and secure enterprise data architectures. This hybrid contract role focuses on defining and governing data architecture standards while actively engaging in data migration and optimisation initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Define and own end-to-end data architecture for SQL/PostgreSQL-based platforms.
- Design logical and physical data models and migration strategies.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate insurance requirements into scalable solutions.
- Lead database modernisation and optimisation efforts across various platforms.
- Establish architecture standards covering data quality, lineage, and security.
- Review and optimise database performance through indexing and query design.
- Support data governance and master/reference data management initiatives.
- Produce high-quality architecture documentation and design specifications.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Data Architect or Senior Data Modeller in enterprise-scale environments.
- Extensive knowledge of the insurance domain, specifically in policy lifecycle, claims, and underwriting.
- Advanced SQL expertise, including complex queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning.
- Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design and optimisation.
- Experience designing conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL/ELT techniques.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills for technical and business audiences.
- Experience in highly regulated data environments, particularly within the London Market.
