Overview
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a contract role where you will lead the development of sophisticated, high-precision engineering equipment. In this position, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team to take designs from initial concepts through to manufacturable solutions. Your work will focus on solving complex design challenges and delivering innovative technology solutions in the field of precision engineering.
Responsibilities
- Develop precision mechanical assemblies and structural components using SolidWorks.
- Collaborate with systems engineers to create prototype assemblies and experimental test equipment.
- Design accurate and reliable mechanical systems, including complex integrated assemblies.
- Create detailed engineering drawings and support the transition from development to production.
- Participate in technical design reviews and suggest engineering improvements.
- Manage bills of materials and PDM systems throughout the engineering lifecycle.
- Address manufacturing-ready requirements, incorporating various manufacturing processes.
Requirements
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- At least five years of experience in mechanical design, preferably with precision equipment or complex electromechanical systems.
- Strong expertise in 3D CAD design, especially with SolidWorks, including detailed assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
- Familiarity with designing for manufacture, including machining, fabrication, and additive manufacturing.
- Experience in developing mechanical structures, enclosures, and mounting systems.
- Knowledge of engineering documentation processes and structured development methodologies.
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate technical concepts effectively.
- Experience in optomechanical design and motion control systems is preferred, along with familiarity with engineering simulation software.
