OT Security Architect

Overview

The OT Security Architect will lead the discovery phase at a designated facility, establishing the security architecture direction to enhance operational technology (OT) security. The role requires a hands-on approach, leveraging deep expertise in OT security to develop actionable architecture for complex, multi-vendor environments. The architect will collaborate with various stakeholders, including engineering and infrastructure teams, to ensure that the architecture is practical and implementable, while producing high-quality documentation to communicate technical recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead discovery at a nominated comparator plant, focusing on OT security tooling and architecture alignment with NIST SP 800-82 and the Purdue Model.
  • Document and own the capability and control map, including evidence-based decisions and reuse opportunities.
  • Identify and validate regulatory and environmental constraints, maintaining a divergence register for unmet requirements.
  • Develop a minimum viable product (MVP) security architecture recommendation, incorporating security patterns and dependencies.
  • Define a sequenced delivery roadmap, including implementation scope and acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operational technology stakeholders ensure practical and scalable implementation of architecture.
  • Produce clear architecture documentation and communicate technical recommendations to both technical and senior stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Deep, hands-on OT/ICS security architecture experience in industrial or critical infrastructure settings.
  • Expertise in NIST SP 800-82 and the Purdue Model, with proven application in OT architectures.
  • Strong understanding of IEC 62443 and its application to industrial environments.
  • Experience in developing architecture documentation, such as capability maps and divergence registers.
  • Proven ability to assess regulatory, operational, technical, and environmental constraints in OT environments.
  • Excellent skills in High-Level Design (HLD) documentation and ability to work independently.
  • Experience working with OEMs and technology vendors within multi-vendor OT environments.
  • Strong communication skills to translate complex technical requirements into architectural decisions.
