Overview
The Principal Risk Engineer will lead the Risk Technology function within a global commodities trading company, focusing on advancing the firm's risk technology landscape. This role involves collaborating with senior stakeholders across technology, trading, and risk to enhance platform capabilities, drive automation, and support the transition to a real-time risk management environment. The selected contractor will be pivotal in overseeing technology evolution and managing a skilled team of technology professionals.
Responsibilities
- Own the delivery and evolution of critical CTRM and risk technology capabilities.
- Lead the onboarding, integration, and implementation of new CTRMs and related platforms.
- Provide senior technical leadership across risk technology initiatives.
- Lead and develop a small team of highly capable technology professionals.
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical and operational issues.
- Collaborate closely with trading, risk, technology, and business stakeholders.
- Drive improvements across platform scalability, automation, reliability, and performance.
- Contribute to the evolution towards real-time risk and next-generation risk technology.
Requirements
- Significant experience within commodities trading, financial markets, CTRM, or risk technology.
- Strong understanding of trading workflows, trade lifecycle, and market risk.
- Proven experience implementing, integrating, or onboarding complex CTRM or risk platforms.
- Strong technical background with experience across Python, APIs, databases, data platforms, and distributed systems.
- Experience leading, mentoring, or managing technical teams.
- Ability to operate comfortably between detailed technical discussions and senior stakeholder engagement.
- Strong understanding of scalable, high-performance technology environments.
- Exposure to real-time risk, cloud-native architecture or high-performance data processing would be beneficial.
