Overview
The Principal Risk Engineer will be a key contributor in leading the risk technology landscape for a global commodities trading company. In this hybrid role, the contractor will work with senior technology, trading, and risk stakeholders to evolve critical risk technology capabilities and improve platform scalability, reliability, and automation. The position requires strong technical leadership and project ownership to drive the transition towards a more automated and real-time risk platform.
Responsibilities
- Own the delivery and evolution of critical CTRM and risk technology capabilities.
- Lead the onboarding, integration and implementation of new CTRMs and related platforms.
- Provide senior technical leadership across risk technology initiatives.
- Lead and develop a small team of highly capable technology professionals.
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical and operational issues.
- Collaborate closely with trading, risk, technology and business stakeholders.
- Drive improvements across platform scalability, automation, reliability and performance.
- Contribute to the evolution towards real-time risk and next-generation risk technology.
Requirements
- Significant experience within commodities trading, financial markets, CTRM or risk technology.
- Strong understanding of trading workflows, trade lifecycle and market risk.
- Proven experience implementing, integrating or onboarding complex CTRM or risk platforms.
- Strong technical background with experience across areas such as Python, APIs, databases, data platforms and distributed systems.
- Experience leading, mentoring or managing technical teams.
- Ability to operate comfortably between detailed technical discussions and senior stakeholder engagement.
- Strong understanding of scalable, high-performance technology environments.
- Exposure to real-time risk, cloud-native architecture or high-performance data processing would be beneficial.
