Overview
The role of Product Engineer (Backend-Leaning) focuses on developing backend services for a cutting-edge commercial platform in the energy and trading sector. You will collaborate with a skilled engineering team to create billing, pricing, and transactional systems that require high reliability and performance. This position offers the chance to take ownership of complex engineering challenges while working entirely remotely within the UK.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop backend services using Python.
- Build scalable functionality for billing and pricing platforms.
- Develop APIs and workflows for processing large volumes of transactional data.
- Model complex business rules and financial calculations.
- Collaborate with Product teams to design solutions from first principles.
- Contribute to full-stack development where required using TypeScript.
- Enhance reliability, scalability, and engineering standards as the platform evolves.
Requirements
- 5+ years of commercial software engineering experience.
- Strong production-grade experience in Python.
- Experience building billing, settlement, pricing, or payment platforms.
- Familiarity with data-heavy systems and complex business logic.
- Knowledge of the Energy sector, Utilities, or Commodity Trading is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated product mindset with significant ownership.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience in startup or scale-up environments is advantageous.
