Overview
We are seeking a skilled Python/Django Software Engineer to join a central government programme focused on enhancing digital services. In this role, the contractor will collaborate in a multidisciplinary team to develop reliable and user-centric software solutions on AWS, with a commitment to quality and standards. As a remote position, the contractor will be expected to work on-site in London 1 to 2 days per month.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain web applications and APIs in Python and Django.
- Develop and deploy services on AWS.
- Write clean, well-tested and maintainable code.
- Take part in code reviews and help raise engineering standards.
- Work with product, design and delivery colleagues in an Agile team.
- Support CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
- Troubleshoot and fix issues across development and live environments.
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience with Python and Django.
- Hands-on AWS experience covering services such as EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3 or ECS.
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Solid understanding of relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL.
- Experience with automated testing and CI/CD.
- Comfortable working in Agile delivery teams.
- Previous central government or public sector experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of the GDS Service Standard and GOV.UK Design System is desirable.
