Overview
The Senior Data Architect will play a pivotal role in the development of a greenfield Azure data platform for a newly formed organization poised for national scale operations. This contract position involves working closely with senior stakeholders to design and implement a robust data architecture, leveraging technologies such as Databricks and Microsoft Purview. The successful candidate will utilize their extensive data engineering experience to ensure the platform meets significant growth requirements.
Responsibilities
- Own the target data architecture, from conceptual through logical to physical design.
- Design the Databricks Lakehouse, including medallion layers and environment structure.
- Define the governance, lineage, and cataloguing approach using Unity Catalog and Microsoft Purview.
- Produce data models and integration patterns optimized for national scale volumes.
- Present and defend best practices to senior stakeholders and build client capabilities.
- Collaborate with enterprise architects, integrations architect, and data governance specialist.
- Remain hands-on to resolve delivery challenges as necessary.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in data architecture for greenfield platform implementations.
- Proven experience in architect roles with Databricks exposure.
- Strong technical background in data engineering or development, particularly on Azure.
- Knowledge of Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and Spark optimization.
- Proficiency in conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling, including dimensional modeling.
- Advanced skills in SQL, Python, or PySpark.
- Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, and Data Lake Storage Gen2.
- Experience with Microsoft Purview for data governance and cataloguing.
