Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Full Stack Engineer on a contract basis to join a fast-growing tech business focused on modernizing its platform. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Rust and Java, with proficiency in React and Python, working within a collaborative and experienced engineering team. This fully remote role offers a unique opportunity to influence architectural decisions and contribute to high-impact projects over a 12-month period.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable backend services using Rust and Java.
- Build high-performance, reliable systems focused on scalability and maintainability.
- Develop and maintain modern customer-facing applications using React.
- Contribute to backend services, APIs, and integrations using Python.
- Own complex features end-to-end, from design to production delivery.
- Collaborate with product, design, and platform teams to deliver impactful functionalities.
- Influence technical direction and engineering standards across the platform.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools for coding and testing.
Requirements
- Extensive commercial experience as a Senior or Staff-level Full Stack / Backend Engineer.
- Strong backend engineering experience with Rust and/or Java, ideally with exposure to both.
- Solid understanding of concurrent programming and performance-focused backend development.
- Commercial experience developing modern frontend applications using React.
- Hands-on experience with Python for backend services or application development.
- Strong knowledge of REST APIs, microservices, and scalable architecture.
- Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools in engineering workflows.
- Previous experience making architectural decisions at the Staff Engineer level.
