Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Engineer to join a leading technology organization specializing in financial services and energy trading. The successful candidate will take a hands-on approach to software engineering, developing complex, bespoke solutions for clients in financial markets while collaborating closely with seasoned engineering teams. This role offers exposure to exciting technologies, including digital assets and blockchain, within a Settlements/Post-Trade environment and is available as an Outside IR35 contract for up to 12 months.
Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance server-side Java/JVM applications with Java as the primary back-end technology.
- Build robust services using Spring and Spring Boot.
- Work on greenfield and brownfield projects within financial services and trading.
- Develop solutions supporting settlement and post-trade workflows, particularly in equities.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to understand and deliver effective solutions.
- Take ownership of technical challenges from investigation through to implementation and delivery.
- Adapt to ambiguity and changing requirements in a dynamic environment.
- Utilize polyglot development skills where applicable, although strong Java expertise is essential.
Requirements
- 5–10+ years' commercial software development experience.
- Strong server-side Java/JVM development experience.
- Proficient in Spring and Spring Boot frameworks.
- Experience with complex greenfield and/or brownfield systems.
- Solid Linux experience.
- Background in financial services, financial markets, trading, or energy trading.
- Hands-on development experience is essential; this is not an architecture-only role.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in ambiguous situations.
