Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Full Stack Engineer for a long-term contract role focused on developing and modernizing backend and frontend systems. The engineer will work within an experienced and product-focused team to enhance the platform's architecture and user experience. This fully remote position is ideal for someone who excels in Rust, Java, React, and Python, and is eager to tackle complex technical challenges with a contractor mindset.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable backend services using Rust and Java.
- Build high-performance, reliable systems with a focus on maintainability and clean architecture.
- Develop and maintain modern, customer-facing applications with React.
- Contribute to backend services, APIs, and integrations using Python.
- Take ownership of complex features from architectural design through to production delivery.
- Collaborate with product, design, and platform teams to implement impactful functionality.
- Influence technical direction, engineering standards, and architectural decisions.
- Apply best practices around performance, reliability, testing, and security.
Requirements
- Extensive experience as a Senior or Staff-level Full Stack / Backend Engineer in production environments.
- Strong backend experience with Rust and Java, ideally with commercial exposure to both.
- Solid understanding of concurrent programming, distributed systems, and performance-focused backend development.
- Commercial experience developing modern frontend applications with React.
- Hands-on experience with Python, particularly for backend services or APIs.
- Knowledge of REST APIs, microservices, and scalable architecture.
- Experience designing and maintaining production-grade systems.
- Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools in daily engineering workflows.
