Overview
We are seeking a Staff Full Stack Engineer on a contract basis to contribute to a fast-scaling tech business focused on the evolution of its platform through modern backend and frontend solutions. The successful candidate will work in a fully remote setting, collaborating with an experienced engineering team to design and implement scalable systems, while influencing architectural decisions. This position is ideal for a skilled contractor with a strong background in Rust and Java, and hands-on experience with React and Python.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable backend services using Rust and Java.
- Build high-performance, reliable customer-facing applications using React.
- Contribute to backend services, APIs, and integrations utilizing Python.
- Take ownership of complex features from architectural design to production delivery.
- Work closely with product, design, and platform teams to deliver impactful features.
- Influence technical direction and engineering standards across the platform.
- Apply best practices around performance, reliability, and security.
Requirements
- Extensive commercial experience as a Senior or Staff-level Full Stack / Backend Engineer.
- Strong backend engineering experience with Rust and Java, ideally both.
- Commercial experience building modern frontend applications using React.
- Hands-on experience with Python for backend services, APIs, or applications.
- Solid understanding of REST APIs, microservices, and scalable architecture.
- Experience in designing and maintaining production-grade systems.
- Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools in engineering workflows.
- Ability to onboard quickly, communicate clearly, and deliver value promptly.
