Virtualisation Architect

Overview

The Virtualisation Architect will play a critical role in supporting a major migration project from VMware to Microsoft Hyper-V within the financial services sector. Collaborating closely with the internal infrastructure team, the architect will assess the current VMware setup, design the new Hyper-V architecture, and create a comprehensive migration strategy. This position focuses on ensuring a smooth transition and enabling the internal team to manage the environment post-migration.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the existing VMware estate and infrastructure architecture.
  • Design the target Microsoft Hyper-V architecture.
  • Develop the VMware-to-Hyper-V migration strategy and roadmap.
  • Review existing compute, storage and networking infrastructure.
  • Recommend appropriate migration tooling and methodologies.
  • Define migration waves and implementation plans with the infrastructure team.
  • Identify technical dependencies, risks, and potential migration challenges.
  • Support high-level design and architecture documentation.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Virtualization Architect or Infrastructure Architect.
  • Strong enterprise VMware experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Hyper-V experience.
  • Experience in delivering VMware-to-Hyper-V migrations.
  • Strong understanding of Windows Server and Microsoft infrastructure.
  • Experience across compute, storage, and networking environments.
  • Enterprise SAN/storage experience.
  • Proficient in migration tooling and methodologies.
