Overview
The 3rd Line Engineer role focuses on providing high-level technical support and expertise in an educational environment. The contractor will serve as the primary escalation point for complex IT systems, manage the daily operations of core networks, and oversee cloud administration while collaborating with various technical teams and stakeholders. This temporary position offers the potential for permanent employment as it addresses critical infrastructure needs.
Responsibilities
- Manage users and security policies within Google Workspace, including GAM scripting and Google Drive administration.
- Maintain and optimize the site-wide networking infrastructure using UniFi systems, including gateways, switches, and access points.
- Act as the escalation point for complex infrastructure and network connectivity issues.
- Oversee network security configurations, including firewalls and multi-factor authentication enforcement.
- Support and manage cross-platform hardware deployments, including Chromebooks, Windows, and macOS devices.
- Assist with network upgrades, system migrations, and maintaining relevant technical documentation and topology maps.
Requirements
- Proven experience administering Google Workspace in a medium-to-large environment, including proficiency with Google Admin tools.
- Hands-on experience with UniFi Network Controller software and hardware in a production setting.
- Expertise in managing mixed device environments, especially ChromeOS, Windows, and macOS.
- Solid knowledge of network security controls, firewalls, and content filtering for high-density environments.
- Familiarity with IT support in educational settings or multi-building site environments is desirable.
- Experience with automation scripting using Google Apps Script, Python, or PowerShell is a plus.
- Understanding of ITIL operational frameworks is preferred.
