Overview
We are seeking an experienced Business Data Analyst to contribute to a major global data transformation programme. The contractor will work collaboratively with business stakeholders, Data Stewards, and engineering teams to define and refine data initiatives from inception to execution. This role will entail running discovery sessions, turning high-level requirements into actionable specifications, and supporting the agile delivery of data solutions.
Responsibilities
- Run discovery sessions with stakeholders to understand business and data requirements.
- Turn high-level requirements into clear, testable specifications for engineering teams.
- Work closely with Data Stewards on data ownership, definitions, governance, and sign-off.
- Define and document business rules, metrics, KPIs, and acceptance criteria.
- Document data lineage and source-to-target mappings.
- Establish structured documentation and approval processes for engineers.
- Collaborate with engineers during two-week sprint cycles to clarify requirements.
- Use SQL and Snowflake to interrogate, profile, and validate data.
Requirements
- Strong experience as a Data Business Analyst within data, analytics, or cloud transformation programmes.
- Evidence of joining projects at the discovery/inception stage.
- Experience transforming ambiguous requirements into structured approaches.
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake and good SQL skills.
- Familiarity with data governance, Data Stewards, and approval processes.
- Experience working with Agile teams using Jira and Confluence.
- Confidence working directly with senior business stakeholders.
- Desirable: Experience with dbt, Power BI, and operational/financial data analysis.
