Overview
The Commissioning Engineer will play a pivotal role in leading the commissioning and operational activities for a major 275kV substation project. Working as part of the Operations & Commissioning team, the engineer will coordinate with National Grid during critical phases including connection, energisation, and the final handover process, leveraging their specialist expertise to ensure the project meets safety and technical requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead commissioning and operational activities across 275kV HV systems.
- Act as a senior HV Commissioning Engineer/SAP within the team.
- Take responsibility for HV switching, safety, and operational tasks.
- Coordinate and interface with National Grid throughout the commissioning programme.
- Ensure compliance with HV and National Grid safety requirements.
- Support the development and implementation of HV safety rules and procedures.
- Assess personnel competency for HV operational duties.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to commissioning and electrical teams.
Requirements
- Extensive experience with 275kV or 400kV substation commissioning.
- Strong background as a Lead Commissioning Engineer, ideally with SAP designation.
- Current or previous TP141/BP141/SR141 authorisation is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Proven competency in HV switching and safety rules.
- Experience with National Grid transmission projects or grid connections.
- Strong understanding of National Grid safety rules and commissioning processes.
- Ability to lead commissioning activities and provide technical direction to project teams.
