Overview
We are seeking an experienced Content Designer / Digital Content Consultant to enhance a local authority's website by creating a user-centered digital experience. In this fully remote role, you will review existing content and user journeys, benchmarking against best practices in digital services. Your primary focus will be on making information more accessible and improving usability, ultimately enabling residents to complete tasks online efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Conduct a comprehensive audit of existing website content, structure, and user journeys.
- Benchmark the local authority’s website against leading UK local authorities and best-practice digital services.
- Assess content quality, accessibility, usability, and consistency.
- Recommend and implement improvements to make content clearer, more accessible, and resident-focused.
- Optimize user journeys to help residents find information and complete tasks efficiently.
- Use AI tools to support content audits, content improvement, and user experience optimization.
- Identify opportunities to increase digital self-service and reduce avoidable customer contact.
- Develop a practical, prioritized roadmap for ongoing website and content improvements.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Content Designer, Digital Content Consultant, or Content Specialist.
- Experience reviewing, auditing, and improving large-scale websites.
- Strong understanding of user-centered content design and digital best practices.
- Knowledge of web accessibility standards and inclusive content.
- Experience improving digital user journeys and online self-service.
- Ability to benchmark websites and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Experience using AI tools to support content design, auditing, and optimization.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, analytical, and communication skills.
