Overview
We are seeking a Content Designer to join a Central Government programme on a contract basis. The contractor will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to support the content design approach, ensuring that user-centred services are clear and accessible. This role involves collaborating with user researchers, service designers, and product managers, while also representing content design to senior stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Support the content design approach across the programme by setting direction and standards.
- Collaborate with user researchers, service designers, interaction designers, and product managers to shape end-to-end services.
- Utilize research and data to identify user needs and enhance content quality.
- Ensure content aligns with the GOV.UK style guide and accessibility requirements (WCAG 2.2 AA).
- Represent content design in service assessments and engage with senior stakeholders constructively.
- Challenge decisions appropriately where needed to enhance content effectiveness.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Content Designer within Central Government or public sector.
- Documented success in navigating GDS service assessments (Alpha, Beta, or Live).
- Experience developing content within agile, multidisciplinary teams.
- Expertise in writing and editing, capable of simplifying complex policy into plain English.
- Strong knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles.
- Familiarity with content management systems and the GOV.UK Design System.
- Proficient in stakeholder management, including engaging with policy and legal teams.
- Bonus: Experience with Figma, Mural, or similar prototyping tools; experience in content strategy or information architecture at programme level; active SC clearance or eligibility.
