Overview
The Control Engineer will play a vital role in supporting the UK distribution networks, focusing on high voltage (HV) and extra-high voltage (EHV) systems up to 132kV. Working in a hybrid environment, this role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and involves on-call responsibilities to ensure safe and efficient network operations.
Responsibilities
- Control networks up to 132kV safely under Distribution Safety Rules.
- Review and consent to switching schedules and safety documents, including PTWs, SFTs, and LOAs.
- Monitor SCADA systems, respond to alarms, and coordinate fault responses.
- Manage approval processes for energising new networks.
- Review RAMS and maintain operational diagrams and records.
- Coordinate cross-boundary activities with DNOs, transmission operators, and customers.
- Support incident management through participation in the on-call rota.
- Carry out remote-end SCADA commissioning.
Requirements
- Experience in electrical distribution, transmission, or renewables.
- HV/EHV operational experience at AP or SAP level.
- Relevant engineering qualification: degree, HNC, or HND.
- Strong knowledge of safety rules and Safe Systems of Work.
- Understanding of the UK Distribution Code and Grid Code.
- Full UK driving licence is required.
