Overview
The Control Engineer will contribute to the efficient and safe management of HV and LV distribution networks for an electricity network operator. This contractor position requires working closely with safety and operational teams to ensure compliance with safety standards and proper execution of network operations. The Control Engineer will oversee network switching, fault response, and supply restoration while helping to develop operational policies and SCADA capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the safe operation and management of 11kV and LV electricity distribution networks.
- Coordinate supply restoration activities, fault response, and emergency network operations.
- Manage switching, isolations, energisation requests, and network configurations.
- Ensure compliance with Distribution Safety Rules, Safe Systems of Work, and relevant industry standards.
- Review and develop electrical safety policies, operational procedures, and Codes of Practice.
- Work closely with SAPs, ICPs, contractors, and operational teams to ensure safe network operations.
- Maintain accurate network records, control logs, and operational documentation.
- Provide technical guidance and support to Duty Control Engineers and operational teams.
Requirements
- Minimum 11kV SAP authorisation, alongside relevant LV network authorisations.
- Strong hands-on experience with 11kV and LV electricity distribution networks.
- Proven experience in LV supply restoration, network faults, switching, and isolations.
- Experience working under the guidance of Network Control.
- Background within a DNO, IDNO, or electricity distribution environment.
- Good understanding of Distribution Safety Rules and electrical safety documentation.
- Ability to review, develop, and implement operational procedures and safety policies.
- Knowledge of SCADA and network management systems.
