Overview
The Data Architect / Data Modeller will play a crucial role in the design and delivery of a new geospatial data platform within a large-scale public sector environment. This hands-on position requires expertise in data architecture, modelling, and engineering, as the contractor will work closely with data engineers and GIS specialists to develop production-grade prototypes and ensure scalable solutions. The contractor will leverage their knowledge of Snowflake and AWS to create a transformed data layer that will support future applications and wider adoption.
Responsibilities
- Lead data architecture and modelling activity through Discovery & Design.
- Develop conceptual, logical and physical data models.
- Understand data sources, structures, relationships and data flows.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers to translate models into implemented solutions.
- Define data structures and modelling approaches across Snowflake and AWS.
- Work with complex geospatial/GIS data, including vector, raster and imagery data.
- Establish approaches to data lineage, quality, metadata and governance.
- Identify data dependencies, constraints and legacy data challenges.
Requirements
- Strong background as a Data Architect, Data Modeller or Data Architect/Modeller.
- Strong experience with logical and physical data modelling.
- Proficiency in modern data architecture and data platform design, specifically Snowflake and AWS.
- Experience with data ingestion, transformation and integration patterns.
- Knowledge of data lineage, data quality, metadata and governance.
- Ability to collaborate closely with engineering teams and engage in detailed data analysis.
- Experience working in Agile, multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with geospatial/GIS data and tools like ESRI/ArcGIS is desirable.
