Overview
We are looking for a Desktop Support Engineer to provide on-site IT support for a pharmaceutical company at the Cambridge Science Park. The role involves being the primary contact for IT-related issues for approximately 50 users, where you will troubleshoot hardware and software problems and ensure the smooth operation of IT systems. This is a three-month rolling contract position, working Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, offering opportunities for professional growth and development.
Responsibilities
- Provide first-line IT support to approximately 50 users, addressing hardware, software, and network issues promptly.
- Manage and resolve hardware-related problems, including setup and troubleshooting of desktops and laptops.
- Assist users with printer issues, connectivity problems, and other peripheral device concerns.
- Escalate complex issues to 2nd and 3rd line support teams as necessary.
- Maintain accurate documentation of support requests and system configurations.
- Perform routine maintenance and updates on hardware and software.
- Participate in on-site projects and system upgrades, collaborating with remote support teams.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and security standards for data protection.
Requirements
- Proven experience in an IT support role, preferably in a corporate or pharmaceutical environment.
- Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems and MS Office applications.
- Hands-on experience with hardware setup, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users.
- Ability to work independently in a face-to-face support capacity.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) are advantageous.
