DevOps Engineer

Overview

This role seeks an experienced DevOps Engineer to support a UK Government Agency in delivering critical cloud-based digital services. The successful contractor will be part of an established engineering team, working remotely to ensure the deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement of live services in an AWS environment. Key responsibilities include collaborating with software engineers and stakeholders while maintaining high standards of security and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Support the deployment, operation, and continuous improvement of cloud-based services hosted within AWS.
  • Monitor the health, availability, and performance of live production environments.
  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve infrastructure, application, and performance issues.
  • Collaborate with development teams to identify root causes and implement long-term improvements.
  • Assist with infrastructure optimisation, automation, and operational best practices.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation where required.

Requirements

  • Proven commercial experience as a DevOps Engineer, Cloud Engineer, or Platform Engineer with strong AWS experience.
  • Proficient in AWS services including EC2, ECS, RDS, Amazon DocumentDB, and CloudWatch.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills with experience supporting live production environments.
  • Good programming knowledge in at least one of the following: Java, C#, or .NET.
  • Experience with scripting or development in JavaScript (Node.js) or Python (Django).
  • Experience working within Agile software delivery teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders directly.
