Overview

The Head of Underwriting Governance & Controls will lead the establishment of a robust First Line of Defence capability within the Underwriting function of a prominent insurer. This hybrid role emphasizes embedding governance, enhancing risk oversight, and ensuring control frameworks align with business growth and regulatory requirements, while collaborating with senior leadership and stakeholders throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and embed the Underwriting Risk & Control Matrix.
  • Build governance and assurance frameworks to provide oversight to senior leadership.
  • Create an effective First Line of Defence operating model.
  • Drive risk management initiatives and assess control effectiveness.
  • Present findings to senior committees and influence stakeholders across the business.

Requirements

  • Strong experience within the London Market or wider insurance sector.
  • Deep understanding of the Three Lines of Defence model.
  • Experience developing Risk & Control Assessments and governance frameworks.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at Executive and Board level.
  • Experience within a mature, highly regulated environment.
  • Previous experience creating committee and Board papers is advantageous.
