Overview
The Industrial Designer will oversee the design of a new off-road e-bike kit, from concept through to production-intent CAD. This contractor will work closely with engineers to rapidly prototype and test design decisions in an agile, product-focused team. This hybrid role is based in central London, allowing for three to four on-site days per week and includes an initial two-week contract with potential for extension.
Responsibilities
- Own the industrial design process for an off-road e-bike kit from concept to production.
- Collaborate with engineers to test and refine design decisions using real parts.
- Create and iterate production-intent CAD models for both the main unit and battery.
- Design for manufacture, focusing on injection moulded plastics and aluminium extrusions.
- Utilize CAD and 3D printing for developing physical mock-ups to validate design concepts.
- Ensure that the user journey and product flow meet the unique context of the off-road application.
Requirements
- Proven experience in industrial design for consumer hardware or physical products.
- Strong CAD skills, preferably with Onshape, capable of leading a product to production readiness.
- Knowledge of design for manufacture processes, particularly with injection moulded plastics and aluminium.
- Experience in e-bikes or micromobility is a plus, as is hands-on prototyping.
