Overview
We are seeking an Infrastructure Migration Engineer to support a significant infrastructure transformation program, specifically migrating a large-scale virtualized environment from VMware/VxRail to Microsoft Hyper-V. This role requires a hands-on approach and will involve working closely with the existing SysOps team to ensure a smooth transition of critical services while maintaining service continuity. The successful candidate will focus on technical delivery, migration execution, and troubleshooting throughout the engagement.
Responsibilities
- Lead the hands-on migration of development, test, and production virtual machines to Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Execute phased migration waves while maintaining service continuity in live production environments.
- Convert VxRail nodes into Hyper-V hosts, including workload evacuation and cluster integration.
- Perform VM conversions using established V2V/P2V tooling and methodologies.
- Validate migration outcomes across compute, storage, and networking layers.
- Troubleshoot complex virtualisation and connectivity issues as they arise.
- Support production cutovers, go-live activities, and rollback scenarios.
- Provide continuous technical guidance and knowledge transfer to the SysOps team.
Requirements
- Proven experience in live production migrations from VMware to Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Strong background in VMware, VxRail, and vSAN infrastructures.
- Hands-on experience with VM migration and conversion tools in enterprise settings.
- Solid understanding of compute, storage, and networking technologies in hybrid environments.
- Demonstrated ability to execute migration plans and enhance existing runbooks.
- Experience delivering complex production cutovers with defined rollback processes.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with a practical, delivery-focused approach.
- Deep technical expertise in Windows Server 2025, Microsoft Hyper-V, Failover Clustering, and Storage Spaces Direct (S2D).
