Overview
This contract role seeks an experienced Data Science Lead to oversee the management and development of four predictive models. The contractor will work closely with an internal team, transitioning knowledge from an external partner while ensuring effective governance and sustainability of data science practices. The position requires a hands-on approach within a Microsoft Azure and Databricks environment, providing guidance to senior stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Take end-to-end ownership of four predictive models, covering all stages from development to optimisation.
- Lead the transfer of technical knowledge and processes from external partners to the internal team.
- Work directly with data, utilizing Python, SQL, and modelling tools to improve model performance.
- Implement enhancements to model management, governance, and lifecycle processes.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation and monitoring of models for sustainable internal ownership.
- Advise senior stakeholders on technical findings and business implications.
- Develop internal team's technical capability and establish effective operational practices.
Requirements
- Significant experience in data science, machine learning, and predictive modelling in senior roles.
- Deep expertise in the entire model lifecycle including development, deployment, and monitoring.
- Strong skills in Python and SQL, with practical experience using Databricks and Microsoft Azure.
- Proven track record of improving existing production models and establishing model governance.
- Experience in regulated financial services or comparable sectors.
- Ability to effectively transfer knowledge from external consultants to internal teams.
- Strong stakeholder management capabilities and a delivery-focused mindset.
- Valuable experience in organizations undergoing transition or capability-building phases.
