Interim Finance Director

Overview

The Interim Finance Director will oversee the commercial finance function for a key operating division within a multi-site services group. Collaborating closely with divisional leadership and external stakeholders, this role focuses on enhancing financial reporting, controls, and systems, while supporting M&A activities and driving significant business impact during the 6-month contract period.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial finance function for a core operating division.
  • Act as Divisional Finance Director, partnering with the Divisional Managing Director and Commercial Director.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly reporting and maintain strong financial stewardship.
  • Manage the budgeting and forecasting cycle in collaboration with divisional leadership.
  • Oversee management accounts production and commercial/procurement links across service lines.
  • Support M&A activity, including financial due diligence and post-acquisition integration.
  • Strengthen financial systems, reporting, and controls within the division.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior leadership and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with substantial senior finance leadership experience.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills to effectively partner with senior leaders.
  • Sector experience in construction, infrastructure, facilities management, or similar environments.
  • Proven experience in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • A track record of improving financial systems and controls in multi-site businesses.
  • Experience supporting M&A activity in due diligence or corporate finance roles.
  • Available to start within 1-2 weeks, ideally immediately.
  • Flexible, pragmatic approach with a hands-on attitude.
