Overview
The Lead EHV Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for the comprehensive end-to-end commissioning of a 275kV XLPE cable system, contributing to one of the UK's largest net zero projects. This role requires ownership over strategies, testing procedures, and liaising with the National Grid, working closely with a multidisciplinary team including OEMs and specialist contractors to ensure successful project execution.
Responsibilities
- Own the commissioning strategy and programme from readiness planning to energisation.
- Lead testing activities, analyze results, and address any discrepancies.
- Manage the National Grid interface, including outage planning and the energisation process.
- Oversee ITPs, commissioning procedures, SAT documentation, and the final handover pack.
- Coordinate with a multidisciplinary team across OEMs, principal contractors, and testing providers.
- Ensure compliance with relevant authorisations and documentation standards.
Requirements
- Proven commissioning experience at transmission voltages (275kV or 400kV) for cable systems.
- Previous role as Commissioning Engineer or Commissioning Lead/Manager.
- In-depth knowledge of EHV cable systems, including joints, terminations, bonding, and earthing.
- Direct experience with National Grid commissioning, outage, and energisation processes.
- Possession of TP141, BP141, SAP, or equivalent transmission authorisations.
