Overview
The Lead EHV Commissioning Engineer will oversee the comprehensive commissioning of a 275kV XLPE cable system associated with one of the UK's significant net-zero initiatives. This role is pivotal, requiring the engineer to manage commissioning strategies, test regimes, and liaise with the National Grid while leading a multidisciplinary team of contractors and testing providers. Responsibilities
- Develop the commissioning strategy and program from readiness planning to energisation.
- Lead and oversee test regimes, analyzing results and addressing discrepancies.
- Manage the National Grid interface, including outage planning and the energisation process.
- Prepare and finalize ITPs, commissioning procedures, SAT documentation, and handover packs.
- Coordinate with a multidisciplinary team across OEMs, principal contractors, and specialist testing providers.
- Ensure compliance with transmission authorisations and standards throughout the commissioning process.
Requirements
- Extensive commissioning experience at transmission voltages (275kV or 400kV) on cable systems.
- Previously held positions as Commissioning Engineer, Lead, or Manager in similar projects.
- In-depth knowledge of EHV cable systems, including joints, terminations, bonding, and earthing.
- Direct experience with National Grid commissioning, outage, and energisation processes.
- Possession of TP141, BP141, SAP, or equivalent transmission authorisations, with preference given for current certifications.
