Mechanical Design Engineer

Overview

This position for a Mechanical Design Engineer offers a unique opportunity to join a growing engineering design consultancy focused on the UK water industry. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with project managers, design leads, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative engineering solutions for major clean water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Roles available include Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, and Mechanical Discipline Lead, each contributing to technical leadership and mentoring within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and lead high-quality mechanical engineering designs that meet project requirements.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Develop practical engineering solutions based on client requirements and site investigations.
  • Liaise with equipment suppliers and prepare technical specifications for tenders.
  • Review scopes of work and output from subcontract Mechanical & Electrical design teams.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards and project specifications.
  • Manage design changes and ensure full documentation of modifications.
  • Attend client meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Requirements

  • 5–10+ years of mechanical design experience within the UK regulated water industry.
  • Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution and pursuing Chartership (or Chartered Engineer status for Principal roles).
  • Experience delivering mechanical designs for clean water and wastewater projects.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawing practices and construction methods.
  • Excellent IT and digital engineering skills.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
