Overview
The Offshore Mechanical Welding Inspector will play a critical role in overseeing and inspecting welding operations on offshore wind projects in the UK, ensuring compliance with welding specifications and quality standards. The contractor will work closely with project teams to verify underwater welding processes, conduct inspections on mechanical systems, and manage quality assurance documentation, all while adhering to a rotational work schedule of three weeks on and three weeks off.
Responsibilities
- Verify subsea and hyperbaric welding operations align with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Witness and log essential variables for underwater welding processes.
- Monitor the installation of pipelaying and cable protection, ensuring mechanical joint integrity.
- Review and document results of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and Automated Ultrasonic Testing (AUT).
- Inspect monopiles, transition pieces, and secondary steelwork for compliance with quality standards.
- Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and manage mechanical completion documentation.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in offshore pipeline installation or structural inspection within the offshore wind sector.
- Must hold CSWIP 3.1 or 3.2 Welding Inspector certification or CSWIP 3.4U for underwater inspection.
- Strong understanding of DNV-ST-F101, API 5L, and ISO welding standards.
- Familiarity with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques is preferred.
- Mandatory offshore survival certifications including GWO, BOSIET/HUET, and a valid offshore medical certificate.
