Overview
We are seeking an experienced PHP/Symfony Contractor to support an urgent upgrade of a legacy platform for a well-established technology business. The contractor will work remotely (or hybrid in Camden, London), focusing on modernising an existing PHP and Symfony stack while addressing technical debt and migration challenges. This role calls for someone with a solid track record in delivering large-scale upgrades of legacy applications, allowing for immediate contributions to the team.
Responsibilities
- Lead the upgrade process of legacy PHP/Symfony applications.
- Analyse and understand the established codebase to identify modernization opportunities.
- Collaborate with existing teams to navigate dependencies and technical challenges.
- Implement solutions for incremental modernization and ensure backwards compatibility.
- Utilise Doctrine for effective database management during the upgrade process.
- Conduct thorough testing to maintain application integrity throughout the migration.
- Operate independently, delivering quality work from day one.
Requirements
- Extensive commercial experience with PHP, specifically versions 8.2/8.3.
- Deep production experience using the Symfony framework.
- Demonstrated history of successfully delivering major Symfony upgrades or migrations.
- Proficiency in working with complex legacy codebases.
- Strong experience with Doctrine.
- Ability to address challenges related to dependencies and incremental modernization.
- Experience working in a contract environment with a capacity for immediate delivery.
- Familiarity with Twig and Mockery is advantageous.
