Overview
We are seeking a Python Developer to join a high-performing Risk Technology team at a global commodity trading firm. This role involves designing and developing a modern, scalable risk platform from the ground up, collaborating with traders and quantitative analysts to provide technical solutions for real-time risk analytics. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to work on complex engineering challenges in a dynamic trading environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain Python applications for a new enterprise-wide risk platform.
- Collaborate with traders and quantitative analysts to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Build robust APIs, data pipelines, and backend services for risk calculation and reporting.
- Contribute to system architecture and uphold engineering best practices in a greenfield project.
- Write clean, tested, and maintainable code adhering to modern software engineering principles.
- Participate in code reviews and work alongside senior engineers for continuous improvement.
- Optimize application performance and reliability for high-volume, low-latency trading environments.
- Engage in Agile practices for high-quality software delivery through continuous integration and deployment.
Requirements
- 2–3 years of commercial experience in software development using Python.
- Strong fundamentals in computer science, particularly algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented programming.
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field from a leading university (preferably Oxbridge or Russell Group).
- Experience in building backend applications, APIs, or distributed systems.
- Solid understanding of software engineering best practices such as testing and version control.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities to tackle complex technical challenges.
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Desirable experience in financial services, trading, or capital markets, as well as knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.
